Someone asked me recently what my hobbies and passions are, and I’ve been pondering this question ever since probably far more deeply than they ever intended me to.
It occurs to me that my greatest joy right now is watching my two-year-old son Joah grow.
You come to appreciate the amazing miracle of life on a much deeper level when you watch a human go from not existing to being born, to crawling, to walking, to talking, to singing, to laughing, to dancing, to crying, to developing their own unique little personality.
I get the extraordinary gift of being his Dad, and helping him along the way.
It’s unbelievably amazing, challenging, thrilling, scary, exciting, difficult, and fun.
Being a father is a deeply gratifying part of the human journey, and I want to be fully present for every stage of it.
And then I realize, on a meta level, what my highest passion and purpose truly is.
I love helping life, in all its forms, grow into the fullness of its potential.
I love helping children grow.
I love helping our garden grow.
I love helping our fig tree grow.
I love helping my marriage grow, my family grow.
I love helping a multitude of projects grow.
I love to continually grow spiritually, physically, intellectually, and emotionally, within myself.
All of this reaffirmed why my passion is my vocation, and my vocation is my passion.
I love watching my clients grow.
I love seeing them transcend unconscious belief systems and thought patterns.
I love seeing them become more physically fit, stronger, and more vital.
I love seeing them become more emotionally intelligent, unlocking the true manifesting power of the mind.
I love seeing their businesses grow and finances solidify.
I love seeing their families and communities grow tighter, reaching greater heights, while growing into the place that truly feels like home.
I love supporting them to grow into deeper communion with God and all of the created world.
The Bible says we were made in God’s image.
God, by definition, lacks nothing. And so I imagine God created this world for the love of watching life grow.
Green forests and blue lakes.
Big mountains and winding rivers.
Plants and animals.
And perhaps most especially human beings.
And quite possibly we as human beings are being called to watch and support the life around us grow with the same infinite love.
I’m going to take my son for a walk.
